Earlier this year in February, Google rolled out Android 11 Developer Preview 1 to its Pixel devices. It took four iterations of DPs before Google unveiled its Android 11 Beta 1 to Pixel and some of the participating non-Google smartphones. Android 11 is expected to launch sometime in Q3 2020 and that is around the same time Huawei will release its custom-made EMUI 11 based on Android 11 as well although there’s no confirmation on dates as of now. Here’s a dedicated page on whether Huawei Y8s will get an Android 11 update or not in our Huawei series.
Will Huawei Y8s get Android 11 Update?
Although Huawei Y8s is a budget phone running Android 9.0 Pie-based EMUI 9.1 out-of-the-box, it is likely to get bumped to Android 11 based EMUI 11 according to an unofficial list of Android 11 supported Huawei devices. Take it with a pinch of salt at least until Huawei confirms something around Huawei Y8s Android 11 update.
When will Huawei Y8s Android 11 Update?
Unfortunately, there’s no confirmed and neither tentative date available when Huawei Y8s users can expect Android 11. This is because Huawei hasn’t yet confirmed the list of EMUI 11 supported devices and neither has confirmed when it will release its custom UI and it will commence rolling out on eligible devices. So, we are left with assumptions as of now. Keeping Huawei Y8s running on Android 9.0 out-of-the-box, it won’t be getting the update soon but it will likely get it someday.
EMUI 11 Status
Apparently, Huawei hasn’t confirmed the actual or even tentative date when EMUI 11 will be officially launched thereby commencing the process of rolling to eligible devices. With that being said, according to a report, it is said that EMUI 11 is expected to arrive at the HDC 2020 to be held in August or September since the last-gen EMUI 10 was announced during HDC 2019 so we can expect the same this year probably.
