With Dollface, Kat Dennings returns to television for the first time since CBS said goodby to 2 Broke Girls. In addition to appearing in films like Friendsgiving and How May We Hate You?, Dennings has been lending her voice to animated programs as of late, being heard in both Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Big Mouth as well as YouTube Premium’s Dallas and Robo, alongside WWE star John Cena. But 2019 and beyond will see the actor in a number of live-action projects that vary wildly in tone.
Since leaving the confines of broadcast television, the sometimes Thor co-star has found herself a pair of interesting new projects on Hulu and the upcoming Disney+ streaming services. And while it will please fans of the first two Thor films to see Darcy Lewis back in action — albeit alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in WandaVision — those eager to see Dennings take on something with less of a pre-existing IP sheen to it, can head over to Hulu for season 1 of Dollface in November.

The series is created by Jordan Weiss and executive produced by Dennings and Margot Robbie, and tells the story of Jules (Dennings), a young woman who tries to renew her friendships with the women she left behind after her longterm relationship ended suddenly. Those friends include Brenda Song (The Social Network), Shay Mitchell (Pretty Little Liars), and Esther Povitsky (Love), as well as a cat-lady bus driver (Beth Grant) who informs Jules she needs to find her way back to Girl World. In addition to its great cast, Dollface will appeal to fans of FXX’s Man Seeking Woman, with its use of absurdity and visual metaphors that made that series so much fun to watch. This time, though, instead of focusing on a single guy’s quest to find the love of his life, Dollface heads in the other direction, suggesting that what Jules needs isn’t another man, but the female friends she lost as a result of her failed relationship.
“Dollface follows Jules (Kat Dennings), a young woman who – after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend – must deal with her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, and rekindle the female friendships she left behind.”
