A Twitter user fancasted Adam Driver as The Hunger Games’ young President Snow in a now viral tweet. President Coriolanus Snow was the primary antagonist in the Hunger Games franchise, in both the movies and the original books on which they were based. Snow was the tyrannical leader of Panem who oppressed the residents through military might, cruelty, and manipulation. His villainy was indisputable, having tried to kill the protagonist Katniss and her friends several times throughout the series, and committed countless other heinous acts.

Naturally, fans were surprised to find out earlier this week that President Snow would be the hero of the upcoming, prequel to The Hunger Games. The prequel will be titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The final movie, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, came out in 2015. It have been more than 11 years between the first book by Suzanne Collins and the upcoming prequel. Both the books and the movies were huge hits. Fans will get a chance to return to the world of Panem in the prequel, which will hit bookstores on May 19, 2020.

Twitter user @vicrulren posted a screenshot of another Tweet, in which someone suggests that Adam Driver play the role of a young President Snow. Vicrulren captions his tweet saying “I f***** hate it here” and posts a screenshot of another tweet. The original tweet just says the words, “okay hear me out,” and includes two photos. On the left is a concept illustration of the younger version of Snow, and on the right is a picture of Adam Driver with blonde hair. The original tweet was posted on an Adam Driver fan account, but user vicrulren’s tweet got more hits and went viral.

The tweet sparked a conversation with people mentioning things such as the fact that Adam Driver does not resemble Donald Sutherland at all. Sutherland portrayed President Snow in the Hunger Games movies. Other users replied by stating that they think it could be a good casting, while some exclaimed that they would have to delete their accounts now after looking at the tweet. Within the thread, users also named their own suggestions for which actor should portray the role. Named actors included Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) and Cody Fern (The Assassination of Gianni Versace).

Adam Driver could be an interesting choice, and certainly has the acting chops to play a young President Snow. A charismatic and talented actor is definitely needed if the movie hopes to make the villain someone fans can root for. The Star Wars and Marriage Story actor is definitely a terrific at what he does, and has a huge fanbase. There is one major factor to consider before fans start campaigning for Adam Driver to play the role.

The story of the prequel is set to take place 64 years prior to the events of the first Hunger Games book. The book will follow Snow when he is a high school senior. Adam Driver is currently 36, so nearly double the age of the prequel’s protagonist. Granted, Hollywood has a long history of casting older actors to play high school students. And movie adaptations often take creative license when using an original source material. It’ll be interesting either way to see what direction the studio takes. There is still plenty of time, as the book isn’t even out yet. The Hunger Games prequel will be available on May 19, 2020.
