The official synopsis for the series reads:
Though the synopsis promises that Hunters is “inspired by true events,” it seems evident from the snippets of action in the trailer that some liberties have been taken with this particular version of the story. Indeed, there’s a little bit of a Quentin Tarantino flavor to the whole thing, which hints that Hunters may take its cues from Tarantino’s revisionist historical films Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood (in other words, audiences should not expect the show to stick to the facts).
Inspired by true events, HUNTERS follows a diverse band of Nazi Hunters in 1977 New York City who discover that hundreds of escaped Nazis are living in America. And so, they do what any bad-ass vigilante squad would do: they set out on a bloody quest for revenge and justice. But they soon discover a far-reaching conspiracy and must race against time to thwart the Nazis’ new genocidal plans.
Of course, there have been genuine Nazi hunters throughout the decades since World War II, and their exploits have been made into some memorable works of fiction. With its compelling Pacino voice-over, the Hunters trailer promises that the show will do justice to the spirit of those who laid everything on the line in order to bring escaped Nazis to justice, even if the tone of the series trends toward over-the-top, perhaps even exploitation-like action rather than straight-laced docudrama.
