The final trailer has arrived for the crime comedy Hustlers. Based on a true story documented in Jessica Pressler’s 2015 New York magazine article “The Hustlers at Score”, Hustlers revolves around a group of NYC strippers who’re struggling to get by in the aftermath of the 2007-08 financial crisis and decide to do something about - namely, scamming their Wall Street clients (aka. the men responsible for causing the recession in the first place). Jennifer Lopez is joined in the movie’s cast by names like Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Lizzo, and Keke Palmer, among others.

Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World), Hustlers will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this Saturday, September 7, ahead of its release in theaters a week later. Clearly, STX sees the film as being a potential critical darling and hopes to generate more buzz ahead of its run on the big screen. The studio has now unveiled a final Hustlers trailer, in an effort to further aid their cause.

You can watch the brand-new Hustlers trailer (which only dropped online today) in the space below.

Much like the previous Hustlers trailer, this new preview focuses primarily on “Destiny” (Wu) - a single mom who takes up stripping in order to support her family - and Ramona Vega (Lopez), the veteran stripper who takes “Destiny” under his wing and, in time, comes up with the scheme to rob her rich clients blind, with the assistance of her fellow dancers (who all get a healthy cut of the profits). This trailer strikes even more of a comedic tone than its predecessor and makes Hustlers look like a crime comedy in the vein of similar, recent true story-inspired movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and War Dogs. As with any film of this type, though, the question is whether Hustlers can strike a balance between the humor inherent to its story and the darker, more serious reality of what ultimately happened in real life. If it can do that, then it may yet become the critical hit STX is hoping for.

Hustlers, of course, has an advantage over something like The Wolf of Wall Street in the sense that its protagonists are immediately more sympathetic than, in this case, the sort of Wall Street crooks Ramona and her crew rip off. It’s also one of the more timely movies debuting on the festival circuit this year thanks to its subject matter, and is (frustratingly) still one of the rare films led by women on both sides of the camera arriving this fall. So long as it earns a decent response at TIFF, Hustlers may yet manage to keep up with the other buzzed-about fall releases right now (like Todd Phillips’ Joker), for those same reasons.
