Immigration officers took selfies with The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Joe Giudice after he was released from custody. He detailed his experience on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen during the special event: Joe and Teresa Unlocked.
Back in 2015, we learned about Teresa Giudice’s 11-month stint in the clink. Now it was Joe’s turn to talk about being deported to his birthplace in Italy, following his 41-month incarceration in federal prison for fraud. Giudice appeared via satellite, and spoke with host Andy Cohen, as Teresa looked on. The estranged husband and wife answered some pretty tough questions about their relationship and family life. Joe also admits that he was sans handcuffs for the duration of his time in custody. Teresa listened intently in some areas and chimed in on others. With Cohen looking on, the married couple confronted some of their greatest fears and concerns about each other. One such admission was when they both expressed concern that the other had been unfaithful, which was an incredibly telling moment.
One thing that offered a respite from some of the more dramatic elements of the show was Giudice’s disclosure that that the immigration officers in charge of him wanted to preserve the moment with pictures. Joe explained to Andy (via People), “I had two immigration officers, one on each side, taking selfies with me the whole time.” He continued, “One guy in front, and I think there was someone else who carried a gun on a plane.” Joe joked, saying, “You know, I’m a very dangerous guy.”
Joe even confessed that the officers wanted pointers on where to vacation, assuming the star had great travel recommendations. Joe explained what it was like to be escorted back with officers. He said, “They stood on the plane all the way until we got to Rome. I told them where to go and have a good time, because they were staying there ’til Monday, so they were heading out to a few islands in Naples and then they were heading back home.” Joe continued, “So told them where to go. I gave them recommendations to go and have a good time.”
Joe’s adventures in custody as well as his subsequent return to his birthplace have provided an eye-opening experience during this contentious time in history. It’s fun to see him with Teresa, even if they are separated by an ocean, lots of hurt feelings, as well as a court order. Their frank (and sometimes disturbing) disclosures during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen prove that this once-loving marriage has hit the skids due to the legal problems it’s faced. However, Joe and Teresa love their four daughters they share, and this televised time together is perfect practice for them to co-parent and communicate with each other. Here’s hoping that the family’s planned reunion in the next few weeks delivers equally compelling television as this.
