Avengers: Infinity War co-director Anthony Russo shares his hilarious birthday cake inspired by the film’s ensemble poster. Directing three films in the MCU with his brother Joe, with stories written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the foursome is set to cap-off the franchise’s 22-film arc with this year’s Avengers: Endgame.

Coming in to direct Chris Evans’ second solo flick as Captain America in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, the Russo brothers quickly became the top-tiered directors in the MCU, having directed two more films in the franchise - Captain America: Civil War and last year’s Infinity War. Filming Avengers 3 and Endgame back-to-back in 2017, Anthony and Joe continued their work on the Phase 3 capper last year with reshoots. Considering how pre-occupied they have been with their work on the twin Avengers sequels, it’s not surprising that even Anthony’s birthday cake this year is inspired by Infinity War.

Anthony shared an image of the hilarious cake on their official Twitter account. Mining design from Avengers 3’s ensemble poster, it only has one caveat - each of the characters’ faces were replaced by his own, including Thanos. Fans quickly flocked the post to greet the filmmaker on his special day, but some of them didn’t miss the chance to make fun of the photo - calling the cake “Anthonity War.” Anthony’s birthday fell on the same day as the Super Bowl where an Endgame TV spot aired. Check it out below:

The Russos’ work on Endgame continues this year with additional photography. Last month Guardians of the Galaxy stars Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Karen Gillan (Nebula) revealed that they’re back on the set. Shortly after that Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye/Ronin) shared that he’s also on-call. It’s unknown if there are other actors returned for more work or if they’ve finally wrapped up with no more social posts from those involved. Regardless, it’s safe to say that Joe and Anthony’s work on the film isn’t done even with filming already wrapped up. The Russos will be manning the film’s post-production, and if the quality  of VFX work in Infinity War is any indication, they’ll ensure that CGI in Endgame will at least be at par with its predecessor. Once the movie is completed, it will be time for them to embark on a global press tour.

After Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, it’s unknown what the future holds for the Russos in the MCU. The directing duo have ventured in other projects like starting their own production company, AGBO. They’re also producing a slew of films such as 17 Bridges and Dhaka (starring Chris Hemsworth), as well as the TV series, Deadly Class. This means that they’ll have their hands full after their MCU stint. But considering how much they did for the franchise, not to mention the relationships they’ve developed with people like Kevin Feige, it’s not impossible to think that they’ll be brought back to direct future films - perhaps when Marvel Studios finally have the rights back to X-Men and Fantastic Four.
