IBM this evening has announced a new dedicated health unit that will deepen its relationship with Apple. The service, called Watson Health, will use the data collected with Apple’s HealthKit and ResearchKit services to provide information to various other companies including Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic. From there, those companies can integrate the data into services they offer to healthcare companies. Apple will work to integrate Watson-based apps into HealthKit and ResearchKit for these purposes (via Forbes)....

IBM has announced the next step in its continued implementation of support for Apple’s Swift. The company announced in a blog post recently that Swift is officially available on the server, inducing the Bluemix Runtime for the development language. Essentially what this means is that developers can create apps for iPhone, Mac, and PC and build the server side for those apps using the same programming language. District Court Judge Lucy Koh has told Apple and Samsung that she would like to see a final end to the five-year legal battle over patent infringements by the Korean company.
